The story behind the movement

Real stories. Hard-won lessons. A framework for people who are done letting fear win—
and ready to build something that matters.

Behind the Book

I didn’t come from a family with a clear roadmap. My childhood had its share of chaos—stuff that could have easily become an excuse to stay stuck. Instead, it became fuel. At twenty-two, I left everything I knew with significant debt, no safety net, and a decision: I was going to build a life on my own terms or fail trying.

That was over twenty-five years ago. Since then, I’ve built businesses, advised Fortune 500 companies, and run a brand strategy firm that operates the way I wish more companies would—no bureaucracy, no bullshit, just results. I’ve been married to the same woman for over two decades. We’ve raised three kids who are turning into people I genuinely respect and admire.

But here’s what matters:
I see what’s happening to the next generation. It concerns me — and it pisses me off. Young adults today are buried under pressure that previous generations didn’t face—algorithmic anxiety, economic uncertainty, a culture that rewards outrage over substance, and institutions that were supposed to prepare them for life but left them with debt and confusion instead. They were told they could be anything, but nobody taught them how to become something.

They’re not broken. They’re not lazy. They’re navigating a world that’s actively working against them—and most of the advice they’re getting is recycled garbage from people who’ve never actually struggled.

That’s why I wrote this book.
Not because I have all the answers. But because I figured out a framework that worked for me—through trial, error, and a lot of learning the hard way. And I believe it can work for anyone willing to stop waiting for permission and start building.

What I’m not. I’m not a life coach. I don’t have a PhD in psychology or a TED Talk that went viral. I’m a husband, a father, an entrepreneur, and a guy who’s spent his whole life refusing to accept that circumstances get the final word.

If you’re looking for someone to tell you everything will be okay if you just manifest hard enough—I’m not your guy. If you’re looking for someone who will tell you the truth, show you a framework, and challenge you to actually use it—keep reading.

What I've Built

A marriage that’s lasted over twenty-five years—not because it was easy, but because we figured out how to build together instead of just coexisting.

Three kids who are becoming adults I respect and admire—people with character, resilience, and the courage to be themselves in a world that rewards conformity.

A home that’s ours—a foundation. A place where people feel welcome, where hard conversations happen, where the next generation is learning what it looks like to live with intention.

A career on my own terms—not climbing someone else’s ladder, but building something that lets me do work that matters with people I choose.

A faith that held up when life got hard—not the bumper-sticker kind, but the kind that’s been tested and still stands.

A legacy in progress—this book, this platform, and a growing community of people committed to breaking their own limitations. Something that will outlast me and keep helping people long after I’m gone.

None of it happened by accident. All of it required doing things that scared me. And every bit of it came from the same framework I put in this book.

Who This is For

This is for the person who knows they’re capable of more but can’t figure out why they keep holding back.

The one who feels stuck between the life they inherited and the life they actually want. The one who’s tired of playing small but doesn’t know what playing big actually looks like. The one who grew up without a roadmap and is still trying to draw one in real time.

It’s for anyone who’s ever wondered if where they came from means they’re destined to stay there.

It doesn’t.

I know because I’ve been that person. And I wrote this book to be the proof I needed when I was in your shoes—not a script, but evidence that people who didn’t start with advantages can still build something meaningful.

You can do this. And here’s how.

The Rest of the Story

I live in Northeast, Ohio with Jodi, our three kids—Noah, Noelle, and Nicholas—and Betty, a Bernedoodle who thinks she runs the house. (She’s not entirely wrong.)

These days, my work looks like a combination of running Boondock Walker, building the Brave & Boundless platform, and figuring out how to take everything I’ve learned and make it useful for people who are earlier in their journey.

The book is just the beginning. What I’m building is a community—a place where people share real stories, support each other through hard things, and refuse to let fear have the final word. Content that challenges. Resources that equip. A movement that keeps growing.

I don’t know exactly where this goes. But I know the direction: help more people break free, build something meaningful, and leave something behind that matters.

That’s the work. That’s what’s next.

Brave & Boundless started as a book. It will become something bigger.

More Than a Book

What We Stand For

Courage over comfort

The easy path is rarely the right path. Growth happens when you choose the hard thing anyway.

Authenticity over approval

Stop performing for people who don't matter. Start showing up as who you actually are.

Action over preparation

You'll never feel ready. Move anyway. Figure it out as you go.

Ownership over victimhood

Your circumstances are real. Your response to them is your choice. Nobody's coming to save you—and that's actually good news.

Legacy over lifestyle

Your Instagram feed won't outlive you. Your impact will.

The Problem We're Solving

Here’s what I see when I look around:

People are stuck. Not because they lack talent or opportunity, but because they’ve been conditioned to play it safe. To wait until they’re ready. To ask permission. To let fear make their decisions for them.

We’ve got a generation of young adults who were told they could be anything—but never taught how to actually become something. They’re anxious, uncertain, and waiting for someone to hand them a map that doesn’t exist.

We’ve got mid-career professionals who followed the script, checked all the boxes, and woke up one day wondering why they feel so empty. The job is fine. The house is fine. Everything is fine. And “fine” is slowly killing them.

We’ve got parents who want to raise resilient kids but don’t know how—because nobody taught them either.

The common thread? Fear is running the show.

Fear of failure. Fear of judgment. Fear of being different. Fear of saying the wrong thing, wanting the wrong thing, being too much or not enough.

Brave & Boundless is about dismantling that fear. Systematically. Permanently.

Questions People Ask

About the Book

What is Brave & Boundless about?

Brave & Boundless: 15 Rules for Breaking Free and Building a Life Without Limits is a practical framework for overcoming fear-based limitations and building a life you’re actually proud of. It combines personal stories with actionable principles covering four key areas: breaking free from old patterns (Fire), developing internal skills and systems (Forge), building life’s core pillars like faith, career, and family (Foundation), and expanding your impact beyond yourself (Field).

The title reflects the core premise: bravery and boundless living aren’t separate things—they’re cause and effect. Every act of courage expands what’s possible. Every time you choose fear, your world gets smaller. The book is about systematically choosing courage so your life keeps expanding.

Anyone who’s tired of playing small. It’s written for young adults figuring out who they want to become, mid-career professionals who feel stuck, parents who want to raise resilient kids, and anyone ready to stop letting fear make their decisions. The principles apply whether you’re 22 or 52.

Yes and no. It’s in the personal development category, but it’s not filled with generic advice and motivational platitudes. It’s built on real stories—including real failures—and practical frameworks you can actually use. If you’re looking for comfortable affirmations, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for honest guidance that might occasionally make you uncomfortable, you’re in the right place.

The 15 Boundless Rules are:

  • Move Before You’re Ready
  • Tell the Brutal Truth Fast
  • Hard Reps Build Unfair Advantages
  • Life Has No Practice Rounds
  • Optimize the Machine
  • Freedom Requires Ownership
  • Pain Is Tuition; Don’t Drop Out
  • Alignment Over Approval
  • Faith Moves Mountains, Doubt Moves Nothing
  • Passion Compounds Into Prosperity
  • Choose Teammates, Not Titles
  • Humble and Kind—The Ultimate Rebellion
  • Your Calendar Reveals Your Values, Your Standards Reveal Your Love
  • Raise the Standard, Earn Your Confidence
  • Make Your Life a Public Service Announcement

Three ways. First, it’s built on the author’s actual experience—including dysfunction, failure, and hard lessons—not borrowed celebrity stories or academic theory. Second, every chapter includes practical exercises (Field Drills), metrics to track (Scorecards), and clear outcomes, not just inspiration. Third, it doesn’t pretend life is simple. It acknowledges complexity while giving you tools to navigate it.

Yes, faith is addressed directly in Chapter 9 (“Anchor Your Soul”) and woven throughout the book. Mark writes from a Christian perspective, but the principles are accessible regardless of your beliefs. The book is more interested in how you live than what you claim to believe, and it doesn’t preach or assume you share the author’s faith.
